Early Intervention and Early Childhood Services Most families with children having or at risk of having a developmental delay or disability would benefit from assistance provided by early intervention services (birth through age 2) or early childhood services (ages 3 through 8). However, these services are not always available to all families and children, and are sometimes provided in a manner which is not developmentally appropriate. Additionally, the social-emotional needs and psychological well-being of the child and family are not always considered.
Play Therapy In the process of growing up, children's problems are often compounded by the inability of adults in their lives to understand or to respond effectively to what children are feeling and attempting to communicate. This "communication gap" is widened as a result of adults' insistence that children adopt that means of expression commonly used by adults.
WHAT IS PLAY THERAPY? A trained play therapist understands the metaphorical content of a child's play, and strives to help the child express their needs and discover solutions in a safe, therapeutic environment.
