Des Moines Symphony The Des Moines Symphony is a full-service professional orchestra. The orchestra performs seven pairs of classical concerts throughout the season, as well as a three-concert pops series, family concerts, in-school ensemble performances, and its annual Yankee Doodle Pops concert, a free performance on the State Capitol grounds on July 3rd. Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra began in the fall of 1950 with a group of musicians who gathered together to play orchestral music for their own enjoyment. The first public concert was held November 18, 1951 at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. In 1956, the college formalized a partnership with the orchestra's board of directors, offering rehearsal and concert facilities and support for ticket sales.
Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra Located in Northeast Iowa and founded in 1929, the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra (WCFSO) has persevered to become one of the most respected and successful orchestras in the country. Typically, the orchestra consists of about 65 members, comprised of members of the music faculty of the University of Northern Iowa, area music instructors, community musicians and outstanding university and high school music students.
