  • Ohio - Warther Woodcarving Museum
    Ernest Warther was a master carver who had a special interest in railroading. This carving of the famous Great Northern Mountain Type Locomotive has 7752 parts with the Great Northern Seal inlaid of Ivory and Pearl. The Engine is carved out of Ebony Wood and the White parts are carved out of Ivory. Even the pipes are carved out of Ivory. The Wheels are connected by gears (that were also carved) to an electric motor under the display. They turn just like on a real train. The bearings for the wheels and gears were carved from a special type of wood from South America that contained enough oil to allow the display to run un-attended for at least50 years or more.
