Music of the Baroque Music of the Baroque occupies a special place in the rich cultural life of Chicago. It bridges the musical gap between the city’s major opera and orchestra companies by providing audiences with a repertoire that is often neglected by larger musical organizations. Music of the Baroque opens its thirty first season in November 2001. Founded in Hyde Park by Conductor Laureate Thomas Wikman, Music of the Baroque has grown to be the midwest’s largest professional chorus and orchestra specializing in 16th, 17th and 18th century music. Its first board of directors was founded in January 1975. Six months later Lucille Ollendorff was elected board president and in 1978 she became general manager. Under her dynamic leadership, the ensemble was led to local and national prominence. Lucille, who died in 1987, was largely responsible for the development of Music of the Baroque as we know it today.
